National Diabetes Run
The #DiabetesZA virtual event was South Africa’s first National Diabetes Run. It took place on Saturday 26 November 2022, which coincided with World Diabetes Month. 9 provinces participated and we had over 54,000km pledged by runners and walkers with diabetes, or supporting those with diabetes.
#DiabetesLooksLikeMe
On Tuesday 1st March 2022, for the first time ever, South Africans with diabetes will show what diabetes really looks like, by uploading a profile pic with the hashtag #DiabetesLooksLikeMe. This will be an annual campaign.
Make sensor technology a PMB for all Type 1s in South Africa
Living with Type 1 diabetes is exhausting. The constant attempts to balance blood sugar with insulin, exercise, hormones, stress, sleep and daily life can sometimes feel impossible. There is something that makes it significantly easier, though – sensor technology. Not having to use outdated fingersticks to prick our fingers, but rather having access to 24 hour data to make decisions.
Wear Blue for Diabetes 2021
Whether you’re a person living with diabetes, a carer of someone living with diabetes or a friend or family member, we want you to join us in wearing blue to create awareness for diabetes. Invite your school, workplace or friends to join in on the fun!
South Africa’s Inaugural Diabetes Summit
Member organisations of SA Diabetes Advocacy, as well as many individuals living with diabetes, have been involved in creating South Africa’s Inaugural Diabetes Summit, co-hosted by the Diabetes Alliance and the University of Pretoria Diabetes Research Centre.
#FingerStickFree
Thanks to the #fingerstickfree movement, the voices of South African diabetics have been heard! Discovery has just announced a CGM benefit for members with Type 1 diabetes. Find out all about how to claim the Discovery CGM Benefit here.
